Oceanic Endless – launch of public art
        20 September 2007

Following the success of both Toolim and Segmented Landscape, the third and final piece of the Lakeside Public Art Program, Oceanic Endless by artists Sonia Leber and David Chesworth of Wax Sound Media in collaboration with Simeon Nelson, was launched at the YMCA Cardinia LiFE on 20 September 2007.

Cr Kate Lempriere, Mayor Cardinia Shire and Tod O’Dwyer, Regional General Manager Victoria, Delfin Lend Lease officially launched Oceanic Endless. There was an opportunity to view the work and the artists were in attendance.

Oceanic Endless is an original artwork, designed specifically for the Cardinia community and for the entrance to Cardinia LiFE. The artwork is a unique combination of visual art and soundscape that enhances the architectural acoustics of the wave-like roof structure. Visitors to Cardinia LiFE encountered a stimulating sound experience, with each new wave of sound playing across the ceiling in a different, changeable way. The artwork also incorporates a striking visual element on the underside of the ceiling, featuring the radial tendrils of a tree, reaching out across the ceiling.

The Lakeside Public Art Program is a joint initiative of Delfin Lend Lease and Cardinia Shire Council to deliver a series of three public art projects in the Lakeside area. The public art pieces promote a strong sense of community and cultural belonging, including a sense of community ownership and pride in public spaces.

The event was presented by Delfin to provide community entertainment and an opportunity for residents to get to know each other better.

Segmented Landscape – launch of public art
                2 June 2007

Following the success of Toolim the second piece of the Lakeside Public Art Program, Segmented Landscape by artist Jennyfer Stratman, was launched at Lakeside Park on Saturday, 2 June 2007.

Cr Kate Lempriere, Mayor Cardinia Shire and Bryce Moore, Regional General Manager Victoria, Delfin Lend Lease officially launched Segmented Landscape. The artist, Jennyfer Stratman, was in attendance and a barbecue lunch was provided for all the community attendees.

Segmented Landscape is a sculptural work specifically designed for the site at Lakeside Park, at the western end of the lake. The work was constructed from fabricated steel and bronze. The steel segments will naturally oxidise to a variegated, rusty sheen which blends with the earthy hues of the surrounds whilst the red figures provide a sharp visual contrast. The work clearly references the new urban dwellings whilst reflecting the rural history of the area, and responds well to the urban architecture and the surrounding hills that can be seen in the distance.

The 39 degree temperature didn’t melt away the motivation of over 400 people of all ages, shapes and abilities who took part in the in the 4km walk, 4km run and 8km run.

Lakeside Pakenham Community Development Manager, Karina Dooley, was very pleased with the enthusiastic support for the event. “The Lakeside Fun Run allowed residents of Lakeside to celebrate their community and get to know their neighbours. It also showcased Lakeside’s natural beauty and strong sense of community spirit to the many visitors who came along.

All 400 entrants collectively limbered up for the event when they participated in a pre-race warm-up with YMCA fitness professional, Rose Meredith.

“It was definitely a sight worth seeing when everyone was doing the pre-race warm up in front of the Cardinia Cultural Centre!” Ms Dooley said.

After the event the participants and the many residents who turned up to support the fun runners, joined in the festivities with a community barbecue, face painting, a jumping castle and award presentations.
