School’s in

The beginning of the school year for 2009 was greeted with much excitement at Lakeside thanks to the opening of the area’s second school, Pakenham Lakeside Primary School.

In a major milestone for education at Lakeside, the new school opened on 2nd February with 132 students eager to start their studies. The opening was an enormous success and the strong enrolment numbers at this early stage indicate a bright future.

The school building is a stunning example of contemporary educational architecture and features state-of-the-art IT facilities, a multipurpose hall, purpose-built music and art rooms and a library.

Early in semester one, students and parents participated in Delfin’s Active School Kids program, which promotes active transport.

The program is supported by the health promotion team at Cardinia Shire Council. The benefits of active transport include reduced traffic congestion and pollution, increased physical activity and a more pleasurable morning school run.

Community groups rewarded students with drink bottles as they walked, rode, skated or scooted to school. Children who walk to school at least once per week for the semester will go in the draw to win a new bike and helmet. The school can be contacted on 5940 9532.
