All Aboard to Lakeside

The Victorian Government will bring forward work on the new train station on Cardinia Road to 2010 as part of its new $38 billion transport plan.

Lakeside project director Sharon Coates said the decision would help meet the needs of the area’s fast-growing population.
“We commend the Victorian Government for fast-tracking the station. It will ease the pressure of people having to drive elsewhere,” Ms Coates said.

The new station will feature two platforms with passenger shelters and seating as well as pick-up bays for buses and a taxi rank. It will also offer a park-and-ride facility and closed circuit camera security surveillance.

Jack Mitchell, chair of the Lakeside Community Development Forum was very excited about the announcement. “We have actively pursued this project since May 2006 following an announcement by then Premier Steve Bracks, that a station would be built at Cardinia Road by 2010. Lakeside residents are excited that the government has reconfirmed their commitment,” he said.
